Charlotte Tai

Artist Statement

I approach filmmaking in the manner of a painter, a mathematician, or a writer. In my films I explore relationships between light and dark, clarity and obscurity, absence and presence in my compositions. Have always been fascinated by the dimension of time-its fluidity. I strongly believe that the essence of film as a medium lies in its pictures, which is why most of my works are either silent, or have minimal dialogues. In filmmaking, I am creating an experience through a passage of time. I find it to be a very mathematical and meditative process.
