Artist Statement
I mostly work in stone and clay. But I also draw, paint, sew and work in bronze. I am always searching for new materials. Different materials require different techniques and ask to be worked in different ways. Therefore, the shapes created will be unique to that medium. The challenge for me is discovering where the borders are with each new material: what is possible, what is impossible. And by doing that I am slowly expanding my own borders.
Bio
Esther Bruijn was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1976. She graduated from The Academy of Arts in Amsterdam in 2002. Soon thereafter she left for Italy to learn the craft of stone carving from the local artigiani. She now lives and works in Italy, California and Holland.
