Kevin E. Taylor

Artist Statement
My work is about discovery. I seek to discover, through a focused visual attention, the characteristics and designs of concept, form and correlation. I am interested in observing and identifying fault, peculiarity, and consequence of human existence by further exploring its effect upon the universe. Relying, heavily upon imagery and subject matter derivative of this chasm, my work succeeds by building on the dichotomy between nature and modern man.

Bio
Having grown up within the cultural climate surrounding skateboarding and punk rock in the mid eighties, Kevin E. Taylor developed a dynamic interest in art, music, and the creative process in general. Following receipt of a B.F.A. in Illustration from The Savannah College of Art and Design in 1995, Kevin continued to explore the possibilities of artistic creation through thoughtful observation, experimentation, and improvisational technique.

While primarily a painter, Kevin has also installed/exhibited film, sound, and sculpture to accompany and animate the stillness of the two-dimensional form. His work has been shown recently to American audiences in Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco; as well as internationally in Japan, Italy and Sweden. In April of 2006, deciding his 33rd year to be significant and feeling the need for personal challenge, Kevin left his rural 1.5 acre estate in his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina for a modest studio apartment in San Francisco. Since his relocation, he has exhibited frequently, and continues adding dates to the schedule. In years to come, Kevin hopes to increase his presence and recognition within the global art theatre, enabling him to travel often and take occasional hiatus amongst the marshgrass, pluff mud, and airy confines of Carolina.
