Artist Statement

Over the past several years my artistic practice has involved the process of collecting and archiving contemporary imagery from Internet, print and video media sources. Honing in on images that challenge our common notions of truth, I construct hyper-real pictorial spaces that result in collages, paintings, photographs and sculptural models. My images explore how information is transferred through contemporary media sources and how viewers extract knowledge through imagery and video that is presented as documentation, but which lacks sufficient context.

Often allowing multiple scenarios to exist simultaneously, while alluding to the passing of time within a static picture plane, each of my images are sourced from locations and events that I have never witnessed first hand and thus only have an implied understanding of their existence.

The work opens a dialogue about the role of image construction in contemporary media and questions the viewer's ability to deduce truth from images that have never been witnessed first hand. Utilizing both traditional means of image construction, such as collage and painting, along with modern digital tools, I capture a pictorial space that rests somewhere between painting and photography, remaining as ambiguous in it's presentation as it is in it's origin.
