Root Division gives emerging artists the space and forum to exhibit fresh, inspired and non-commercial artwork in our 2000 ft. gallery. Through our 2nd Saturday series, Root Division annually showcases the work of over 350 artists, and offers emerging curators the opportunity to explore conceptually rigorous group exhibitions in our gallery space.

The Exhibitions Intern is an integral member of the Exhibitions & Installation team at Root Division working closely with the Art Programs Manager and Installation & Site Coordinator to provide administrative and logistics support to the 2nd Saturday programming.

Exhibition Intern Qualifications:

  • Interest in exhibition coordination and gallery management
  • Passion for working with emerging Bay Area artists
  • Current student or recent graduate of BA in Fine Arts, Art History, Arts Management, Curatorial Studies or other liberal arts area of study
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs and interests of artists and a diverse audience
  • Experience in Google Drive, Microsoft Office and Dropbox a plus
  • Strong writing skills a plus

 

Exhibition Intern Tasks:

  • Assist in the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions / provide support for the Installations & Site Coordinator

  • Organize submissions for upcoming exhibitions and curatorial proposals

  • Create online artist contracts via Google Forms

  • Document exhibitions and organize images via Dropbox

  • Provide 2nd Saturday event support - welcome guests, monitor food platters, assist with creative station, and other various event tasks

  • Assist in coordinating the display of artwork in the Frank Ratchye Project Space

Other Considerations:

  • Shows personal initiative and ability to work as a member of a team in an informal, creative, and fast-paced environment.

 

  • Overall positive attitude and ability to work with various constituencies, and from a wide variety of backgrounds, including studio artists, exhibiting artists, curators, staff, jurors, and supporters of the organization.

 

Desired Availability (6 - 12 hours/ week):

  • 1 -2 afternoon shifts from Monday - Thursday, 12 - 6 pm
  • Event support the 2nd Saturday of the month from 6:30 - 10:00 pm
